I do. Down with myspace. I think they need to verify one's age on myspace and have more internet "cops" patrolling the site. Your opinions? Most comprehensive and thought out answer will win "best answer".
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Any messaging website makes children vulnerable to sex offenders. But, for some reason MySpace is the only one that people are talking about lately.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? YES, has many times so far Report It
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? I say the whole Internet is and I blame the parents more than Intenet Cops, the parents should know what their children are viewing.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? It's not completely myspace's fault, it's the whole internet. There's not much that can be done that isn't already being done.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? No, I have a lot of fun on MySpace.
The only way it makes children more vulnerable is who the children are accepting as their friends.
You can meet sex offenders anywhere...in the Park, at Church, in a Mall.
MySpace in itself is not any more dangerous than the above places. Actually, it's less dangerous, because you're in your home when you MySpace, not out in public.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? YES i do , i hate it, i dont have it anymore...
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? yes... any site that allows predators to get into the minds of young adults should take precautions... of course in the end it's up to the parents to monitor the activity...
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? As a child no matter what website your on your vulnerable to sex offenders. Once my space is gone there will be another site to replace it so it comes down to how well you taught your kids not only to respect themselves but what's right and wrong.
If you pick up any newspaper especially in the Chicago area there is a new article on a weekly basis about kids getting busted by cops online on my space for things like posting pictures of themselves smoking pot.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Truthfully, I think that there's nothing wrong with Myspace as long as you only keep in contact with your real life friends on there. You would be surprised how many internet cops they have there.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? I agree with you. Myspace is a breeding ground for sex offenders. As a mother of 3 young children, I feel that I will have to get rid of the computer alltogether to try to protect them from horrible people. (Of course I won't be able to protect them forever), but so many young girls and boys get conned into talking to these online predators, and have often gone missing because of it. SCARY!!! Death to myspace and all others like it!
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? that's a good question. i agree with you and i disagree. i don't think myspace should be shut down because plenty of responsible adults use the sites in order to associate with friends and other adults. i'm 23 and i have a myspace profile but i don't associate with anyone under the age of 18. not everyone on there has the agenda of going after children. *however* i do see your point about it needing monitoring. there should be some sort of verification process like putting in your driver's license number for example. being that it would get costly to run the checks, they'd have to have more people to do this, and end up charging money for it. parents should also monitor their children's myspace. it's not all the website's fault. the parent should either check the child's myspace or simply take the computer away or put myspace under parental control on the computer where it can't be accessed.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? It's honestly no worse than here. You just want to talk to people you know? I exchange emails and find out OMFG this person is 11!!! I don;t want to go to jail.....LOL Happens here on Yahoo as well......
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Any place on the internet can make children vulnerable... Blogs, on-line journals, chatrooms, and even IM's...
I don't agree that they should be taking down MySpace. But I do agree more "internet cops" should be patrolling the site and making sure there's nothing illegal going on.
I mean, if the child or teen is smart enough, they will select their actual age... Depending on their age, it makes their profile private so no weirdo's can look at it.
Also, it would help if these young kids didn't post pictures of themselves half naked! That's just wrong... I think MySpace might be getting in trouble for child-p0rn soon, I mean... it's everywhere!
Also, as long as you play your cards safe and don't list alot of personal information, you really should be fine.
And where are the parents in all this? Shouldn't they be checking up on what their child is doing on-line?
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Thats like saying pencils are dangerous because you can stab someone with it. You shouldnt hold the tool accountable for people's actions. Sex offenders will always have a way and means to pray on children. That is why educating users is so important. And for heavens sake, know what your children are doing online!
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Yes I know several teens that have gotten in a lot of trouble and one that was contacted by a 35 y old man. Also I have this friend that just can not handle the drama of it. Every time some girl leaves a comment on her baby's daddy's page she flips. Then she had a pic of her son and his dad on her page and he flipped out. (I think he was trying to be an undercover dad). Anyhow I think it is so damaging for many reasons and that there should at least be some age verification. I agree with the above comment that you should always know what your kids are doing online.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Any web site where people can message one another, even this one, make children more vulnerable to sex offenders. The blame should not just rest on Myspace. The problem is that people like to look for someone to blame so they picked Myspace and targeted it. Part of the problem is there are not enough internet "cops", but that's not all. The kids should know better than to meet up with a random person they met on Myspace. And the parents should also teach the children better, because if these kids are stupid enough to meet up with a person they met in cyberspace the parents aren't doing their job right.
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? All social networking sites like Myspace have this problem. The whole point of them is to encourage communication between members and proliferation of personal details. Basically, the point of them is to "make new friends".
In any system like this, age verification is a method that either costs money, or causes increased difficulty for the user, neither of which is desirable in such a website, as it will deter users.
Therefore, the only real option the website has is to promote user awareness, and to take firm action with those who mis-use the system.
The use of "cops" to patrol the site is limited in its scope - imagine the number of users and amount of new information generated every day, and you will quickly realise that only a huge team of people would be able to adequately police it.
Yes, Myspace makes children vulnerable to sex offenders, and the risk will always be present in such a system, but, the risk is small, regardless of what the media claims.
I personally dont use Myspace, as i think it encourages a very overt, artificial culture. But it is popular, and it will stay there so long as thats the case.
The reality is that better education of users, through Myspace, and through parents, is the most effective way of tackling this issue. Myspace needs to promote user awareness very obviously, and take firm steps with any abusers of the system. But the risk will always remain, and everybody needs to realise that
edit: i dont know what level of control is available to users, but this is an important aspect, users need to be able to set permissions, and to control who can, and who cant see their information
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? It isn't that My Space is bad. It is that parents DO NOT monitor what their children are doing when they are on the computer. Children should not have a computer in their bedroom. It should be in plain view of the family. That will give your child more internet protection than anything else.
I am raising two of my grandchildren. They are allowed on the computer that is RIGHT BESIDE my computer. I can see everything on the screen. They are age 8 and 12. Also, they have to do 30 minutes of educational site games before they can read their email or talk to their friends and family on the instant messenger. Please note also that those on their instant messenger are pre approved by me. If I don't know them, they don't talk to them.
Parents need to take action in their childrens lives and PARENT!!!
Do you think myspace is bad and makes children vulnerable to sex offenders? Myspace was set up for highschool and college friends to get together. Kids need not be on it at all. Why aren't these parents watching what their kids are doing? Why are there kids on a adult school alumni site? I hope the cops weed out the bad blood and things go back to normal. Personally, if parents were doing their jobs the cops wouldn't have to step in at all. I hate to waste taxpayer money.
